Aconitum Napellus: Daily Use & Indications
Monkshood. A remedy classically associated with sudden onset -- after a shock, a fright, or exposure to cold, dry wind.

Main Causes & Triggers (Etiology)
Weather & Environment: Exposure to dry, cold winds or dry, cold air.
Physical Triggers: Sudden checking/suppression of perspiration, or drinking cold drinks.
Emotional Triggers: Fear, fright, or the chronic, long-term effects of fright.
Key Mental & Emotional Symptoms
Mental Distress & Anguish: Mental distress is invariably present in Aconite complaints. Patients experience terrible anguish, extreme restlessness, and continuous tossing about.
Intense Fears:
Fear of death (the patient may even predict the exact day of death).
Fear of crowds, going out, and other phobias.
Agitation: Great anxiety and unbearable pain cause the patient to toss around in agony and throw off coverings.
Key Physical Symptoms
1. Fever & Circulation
Sthenic Fevers: Characterized by dry heat of the skin, intense thirst, red cheeks, quickened respiration, scanty urine, constipation, and extreme restlessness.
Pulse: Hard, full, bounding, rapid, and tense.
Chilliness: Every movement makes the patient feel chilly, accompanied by mental anxiety.
2. Pain & Sensations
Character: Pains come on suddenly and violently; they are insupportable and drive the patient to despair (e.g., severe neuralgia).
Affected Areas: Painful parts are violently congested, hot, and swollen, with sensations of tingling and numbness.
Abdomen: Shooting pains all over the abdomen, which is very tender to the touch (indicates the beginning of inflammatory processes).
3. Face & Head
Face is red and flushed, but turns pale upon sitting or rising up.
One cheek may be red while the other remains pale.
4. Thirst & Digestion
Thirst: Unquenchable thirst for cold water (takes large drinks at long intervals, or small amounts frequently).
Dysentery: Stools are frequent, scanty, with tenesmus; particularly common in autumn when days are warm and nights are cold.
Diarrhea: Inflammatory origin caused by cold drinks or checked perspiration. Stools are watery, slimy, and bloody.
5. Female Health
Suppression of menses occurring in plethoric (full-blooded) patients, brought on by fear, fright, or exposure to cold.
Target Organs & Conditions
Acts primarily on the first stage of acute congestions and inflammations.
Favorite Localities: Larynx (croup), bronchi, lungs, pleura, joints, heart, and circulation.
Modalities (Aggravations & Ameliorations)
Worse ($<$):
In the evening and at night (especially chest symptoms and pains).
Lying on the left side.
In a warm room or under warm coverings.
From the slightest motion or movement (causes chilliness).
Better ($>$):
Uncovering (patient kicks or throws off clothes).
Dosage & Potency
Potency: 15C, 30C, and higher.
Note on Remote Effects:
The remote effect of exposure to dry, cold air does not rule out the use of Aconite, even if a severe condition (like croup, pneumonia, pleurisy, or rheumatism) did not immediately follow at the time. Had Aconite been administered when the acute, characteristic symptoms were present, it would have resolved the issue.
