Staphisagria

Overview & Preparation

  • Preparation: The mother tincture is prepared from the ripe seeds.

  • Primary Action: Acts chiefly on the genito-urinary organs, particularly the prostate gland, corresponding to conditions arising from abnormal states in this region.

Mind, Etiology, & Physical Constitution

  • Etiology (Causes): Symptoms result from suppressed anger, peevishness, hypersensitivity, sexual excesses, and onanism (self-abuse driven by allowing the mind to dwell excessively on sexual subjects). This remedy meets the consequences of these acts.

  • Mental State:

    • Sad, irritable, gloomy, and very peevish.

    • Deeply depressed after a fit of anger or an insult (described as a sort of "mental colic").

    • Moody, prefers solitude, and is shy of the opposite sex.

    • Weak memory; prone to hysteria or hypochondriasis arising from sexual excesses or onanism.

  • Physical Appearance & Debility:

    • The nervous system is worn out and exhausted, characterized by the feeling: "So weak ! so weak !".

    • Physical appearance is pale, with a peaked nose and sunken eyes surrounded by dark rings.

Head & Eyes

  • Head: Sensation of a round ball sitting firmly in the forehead, remaining fixed even when shaking the head.

  • Eyes: Itching at the margins of the eyelids. Constantly recurring styes, chalazae on the eyelids, and residual nodosities resulting from styes, which sometimes ulcerate.

Mouth, Teeth, & Digestive System

  • Mouth & Teeth: Premature decay and discoloration of the teeth. Teeth turn black and crumble as soon as they appear (erupt), a condition found in sycotic children.

  • Stomach:

    • Sensation as if the stomach were hanging down, relaxed, flabby, and weak.

    • A great desire for wine, brandy, or tobacco.

  • Abdomen: Pain in the abdomen after every morsel of food and drink. High general sensitiveness of wounds, teeth, abdomen, sexual organs, and ovaries.

Genitourinary & Skin Symptoms

  • Female Organs: Crawling sensation on the external genitals as if from insects; the parts are extremely sensitive.

  • Skin: Eruptions accompanied by violent itching. When scratched, the itch changes place and appears somewhere else.

Key Comparisons

  • Black, Crumbling Teeth: Compared with Kreosote (in sycotic children).

  • Abdominal Pain After Eating: Compared with Ipecac (pain after every morsel).

  • Shifting Itch: Compared with Anacardium and Mezereum (itching that changes location when scratched).
